Explain the Production of Natural Gut.
starts from the cow. The string Natural gut has a very sophisticated process in which hands are used. To start the process A part of the cows intestine called the Beef serosa is removed and cut into long ribbons. Once they are cut into ribbons they are cleaned out for a long period of time. They are then placed in a variety of baths for 30 days to gently remove all the impurities in the serosa without harming any of the collagen which is what keeps the strings durable. It then dependent on the brand may be bleached to remove color but is usually not. When this process is completed and all the impurities are removed, they are then ready to have color added to them through another process of quality control. These ribbons are then put together on racks and the drying process begins, it is carefully controlled and done gently to keep as much of the properties of the ribbon in tact. This is a process which can take several days. Once the ribbons are dried they begin to look kind of like a string, At this stage they are then polished to make the roughness of the string, smoother. It is then checked to see if it is the right thickness, Once this is complete it is then coated with a layer of a substance called polyurethane protecting it from abrasion and water. Finally the string is prepared for packaging. Producing one set of natural gut strings is a long and sophisticated process which has a huge effect on the price of the string. The longer the process the better the consistency of the string resulting in a better product |
